I photographed this wasp in 2011, at the Fletcher Wildlife Garden, but at the time, didn't realize what it was. I've since seen more of these small wasps at the garden, searching out leafcutter bees on which they are parasites . These are the only "northeastern member of the family Leucospidae" according to Stephen Marshall. Notice that this female has her ovipositor folded over her back! I think that is pretty cool, as she can keep it out of the way until she needs it! You can see how small this wasp is, because the aster flower on which she is sitting is very small.
