Now when I first decided to take Lucy out and about, I decided to do it locally as a "dry run", so I took her to the local Rowlett Library.
I pulled up in the parking lot and realized I would have to carry her for a distance and she is quite heavy and difficult to hold.
So I lifted her out of the car and as quickly as I could walk, I headed towards the bench and placed her next to Mark Twain.
I was lucky as Lucy's head was turned in his direction. Really hadn't taken that into consideration.
As I went back to the car to get her book, several people came out of the library and gave Lucy a strange look but did not say anything and I wondered what they were thinking.
Pretty soon an older woman came out of the library carrying several books.
She looked over at Lucy and instantly burst into laughter and came over to me to see what this was all about.
From what she said, she has been very depressed and Lucy was the highlight of her week. We laughed together and had a lovely chat.
She left with a smile on her face. That's when I first realized Lucy's power to promote good will and to bring a smile and laughter to those she meets.
I do wish I had gotten a photo of Alma and Lucy together with Mark Twain. It was Alma's comment that started our adventures going out and meeting strangers and spreading good cheer!
Thank you Alma!
