Panorama of St. Bathans and Blue Lake in autumn, Central Otago, New Zealand

What's left of St Bathans on the left and the Blue Lakes over to the right. St Bathans once boasted 2000 miners greedy for gold and also greedy for drink as there were 13 hotels here. The Blue Lake was created by the miners digging 69 metres down for gold and the resulting hole eventually filled with water. The blue colour is created by mineral deposits. Is that enough info or what? Actually, no not quite.......there is only one hotel there now.

Oh...wow!! Stunning..... this brings back memories of our visit there. We stayed by the lake in a campervan until the wind came up and it was so strong it shook the van continually. Moved up by the Vulcan Hotel and went and enjoyed a few drinks and the company of the locals.
