Fallopia seed (Fallopia japonica)

This is the delicate little seed of a large bamboo-like plant called variously, false bamboo, or Japanese bamboo. It isn't a real bamboo, being in a completely different family. It was classified in the genus Polygonum, but has been recently moved into the genus Fallopia. It is a highly invasive species, more so out west in BC's Lower Mainland. But even here, it can form dense thickets that spread further and further each year, shading out all other plants.

Not sure I know the plant and by your description I hope we don't have any of vthem over here. Love the delicate seed, so well captured.

It's a pretty picture anyway. I've found that a lot of invasive species are actually very pretty. Of course that doesn't mitigate the damage that they cause to the ecosystem edging out the native species.

Well captured with fine detail, Christine. Thanks for the background info. ~V

Quite pretty. First time I have seen the word Fallopia without the "tube"

We have a problem with the false bamboo here. The capture is great... cool "ice cube"! V

It sounds horrible but looks beautiful here. Love the ice encased branch and the colorful bokeh. V.
