Kingfishers hang out around bayous, canals, freshwater lakes and large ponds where there are nearby trees. They dive into the water, catch a fish and then fly up into a tree where they swallow the fish whole.

There's a little bit of red showing at the top of her left leg in the first photo. Males don't have any red.

Not an easy bird to capture. How can you tell it's a "she"?
