...a Hommage to Gutenberg

Entrance sign, seen yesterday in Mainz, the capital of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany. The city with a population of 200.000, is famous as the home of the invention of the movable-type printing press, as the first books printed using movable type were manufactured in Mainz by Gutenberg in the early 1450s. Until the twentieth century, Mainz was usually referred to in English as Mayence.

I like the strong lines and the strong language of the Exit sign. It is much like a type press in character! V

Strong lines and shadow. Yes, the Gutenberg Bible is infamous. Wikipedia says, "The Gutenberg Bible (also known as the 42-line Bible, the Mazarin Bible or the B42) was the first major book printed with movable type in the West and the first major book produced on a printing press anywhere in the world. It marked the start of the "Gutenberg Revolution" and the age of the printed book in the West."

I learnt what Ausfahrt meant when seeing it before every exit on your motorways / autobahns this year.
Good contrasts here showing up the lines, etc
