Bolo Hauz is the only preserved monument on the Registan Square. The most ancient part is the Hauz (pool). The mosques and pools were the centre of the community. However this fetid pools, in wich the population washed and from wich they drew water, were famous for their smel and diseases ( Bukhara Boil, Guinea Worm).
The Bolo Hauz Mosque was buit in 1712. It was built with a roof extension supported by pillars.
Each pillar consist of several tree junks joined together with metal rings. The tops of the two central colums, which indicate the entrance to the mosque, are connected with an elegant double arch. The lower teardrop-shaped part of either column resting on a base is decorated with beautiful carvings. The arched loggias and the ceiling of the Ayan are decorated with splendid paintings.
