Great Egret Comes in to Land

A few years ago the Darling River in western New South Wales was a series of waterholes and the adjacent Menindee Lakes were empty. The drought had taken its toll depriving the once thriving bird population of its food supply. Recent sustained and heavy rain means the Darling River is flowing again, the Menindee Lakes have filled and the birdlife has returned. Just below the main weir, near Menindee, the pelicans, cormorants and egrets compete for the best fishing spot... and this Great Egret has just claimed its postion.
