Cypress Hills Provincial Park in Saskatchewan rises about 500 metres/1600 feet above the surrounding plain. The park features pine and aspen forests, native grasslands, abundant wildlife and a number of year-round outdoor recreational activities. The park is also a Dark Sky Preserve where artificial light is kept to a minimum to protect the natural darkness of the night sky. A small observatory in the park is occasionally open to the public for stargazing through a telescope. On a clear, dark night, the naked eye or a pair of binoculars can provide awe-inspiring views of the stars too.
