Eagle

Cornucopia, Wisconsin

The remains of Eagle sit on the beach at Cornucopia, Wisconsin (town of Bell). In 1950 the Lake Trout catch was 3 million pounds. By 1960, the trout catch was down to 360,000 pounds. Fishing was big in Cornucopia, but now only the Halvorson Brothers run a Commercial fishing operation out of Cornucopia. Dave and I stopped by and bought some Lake Superior whitefish and some smoked fish! Yum. The decline of fishing is blamed on many things, but the biggest reason is the lamprey eel.

A interesting bit of history, and sad that the boat can't be restored, could be used to tourists and rod fishing?

Thanks Maggie, Walter and Michael.

Michael, Yes, it is on the shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin. From what I understand, the Eagle was used out of Cornucopia. Could be the last owner was out of Minneapolis (I was wondering that, myself).
I am using a couple of R lenses on the NEX7 at the moment, but my plan is to convert the mount of each to Sony A mount and use them on my A77. I would still be able to use them on the NEX7, too. The Leica R lenses are amazing! I used to use them a long time ago on my Canon 5D, but Sony has made it easier to focus manual focus lenses.

Just think of the trips out in her...
Wonderwho brought her up from Minneapolis, and what they did with her...
Is that Lake Superior behind?
When did you get the R lens?

Fred, There is a Maritime museum in Cornucopia, but it was not open. The way that I understand this is that these boats (there are several) were assembled here in the hopes of saving the heritage of the Cornucopia fishing industry for posterity. Unfortunately, there was not enough money, so the committee was disbanded. The ropes have been placed around the boats to keep people from climbing on the old relics. There is an adjoining park, so I'm pretty sure this land belongs to the village or the state.
