1960's - Jackie Gleason, a long-time South Florida resident

Jackie Gleason was one of the first homeowners at the Country Club of Miami in the northwest section of Dade County. At the time you had to drive for several miles through undeveloped land from the Palmetto Expressway to get there so the residents out there were kind of remote. He had a large sprawling home built on the east golf course just west of now NW 67th Avenue. He later moved to another home in Inverrary and his County Club of Miami home was sold to New Testament Baptist Church which runs a large private school named Dade Christian School just north of the Palmetto Expressway and east of NW 67th Avenue.
