Elvis In Tupelo

This larger-than-life statue is located in front of the Tupelo, Mississippi, City Hall and depicts Elvis Presley performing in 1956 in his hometown of Tupelo. On October 3, 1945, 10-year-old Elvis played to his first crowd on these grounds. He took 5th place in a talent show. Eleven years later he returned as the "King of Rock And Roll!" Mississippi artist Bill Beckwith created the statue based on the famous photograph known as "the hands" taken by Roger Marshutz in 1956 in Tupelo. The statue was dedicated in August 2012. Tupelo City Hall and the statue are located on the former site of the Tupelo Fairgrounds.
