Parasitic wasp (Leucospis affinis)

This tiny wasp is exploring various nest holes in a bee box, looking for the nest of a leafcutter bee which she will parasitize. These are the only "northeastern member of the family Leucospidae" according to Stephen Marshall. Notice that this female has her ovipositor folded over her back! I think that is pretty cool, as she can keep it out of the way until she needs it!

Very interesting. We've had some "other" wasps making nests or laying eggs in the mason bee houses. They stuff the holes with dried grass.
