Monarch butterfly chrysalis and caterpillar

The chrysalis on the left formed yesterday afternoon (Aug. 24). This evening, at about 9 p.m., the second caterpillar assumed the J-position next to the chrysalis, and at some point in the next 12 hours or so, will also form a chrysalis. In about 9-14 days, monarch butterflies will emerge. It is quite miraculous, to me, to see this amazing transformation. I am particularly intrigued that this caterpillar, who spent the last 12 hours crawling around the container, should have selected a spot right next to its 'kin'.

Amazing capture. The chrysalis looks like a jewel and the caterpillar is mimicking its shape. V.

awesome capture of the 'J' and the chrysalis. I see you have them contained, the times I've raised them I allowed them free range! Still have chrysalis casings hanging from tables, walls and ceilings!!
