Lynn Green Root - "Hands" 48" x 48"

Lynn Green grew up in her mother’s studio and enjoyed Myra as her first art teacher. From a very young age Lynn was bent on creating her own artwork. In fact, her paintings first appeared in a local gallery when she was but eleven years old. While seemingly it would have been easy for Lynn to adopt the role of artist, at first she pursued writing poetry.

She could not deny the visual artist in her, though, and soon she had taken art classes locally at Millsaps College, at the University of Mississippi with artist Jere Allen, and in New York City with Mississippi artist Fred Mitchell, followed by additional studies at the University of Alabama with Alvin Sella, and at the University of New Orleans.

Early in her career Lynn developed a distinctive style that incorporated incredible use of line, texture, pattern, and color, punctuated with words in various languages. Various passions in her life were expressed in her art, including animals, close friends, and religious subject matter. Lynn spent most of her life in Jackson, working in several artistic capacities, including portraitist, illustrator, muralist, textile designer, and any other creative venture that may have been offered her.

She and her artwork were inseparable.
