Mind bending shot! Looks like a scene from a sci-fi movie.

Thanks everyone for your very kind comments! To answer Terry's question, I splayed out the legs of my tripod and laid it across the rear deck in my car, which is basically the folded up roof. One leg of the tripod extended into the passengar compartment, which was no problem because I wanted the camera aimed upwards anyway.

After attaching the camera to the ball head, I manually set the focus to the dashboard, stopped down to f/22 to get really long exposures, set the shutter manually for 30 seconds at ISO 400. Later I changed it to ISO 100. Then I drove SLOWLY around a parking lot doing some test shots, making sure everything was secure.

Using my Canon intervelometer I headed out into the streets and just pressed the button everytime an exposure finished. Periodically I'd stop, get out and check to see what sort of imagery I was getting. I found I could create more interesting lines by turning at intersections, and then turn the opposite direction at the next all within the same 30 second exposure.

If was fun and pretty easy to do. I'm surprised I didn't get pulled over because I was also swerving back and forth to add more curves to the lines. :)
