Arlen_120808_0570-w.jpg

One day each week is reserved for a special trip, weather permitting. For us, that day was Wednesday. Just about the whole camp packs up and goes. It's a long ride,
about two hours in the small john boats. It involves running the length of several lakes and rivers to reach the headwater creek of the whole system, above Lake
Kulik, also called 5th Lake. (Lake Nerka, where we started, is 2nd Lake.) Because big whitecaps on the lakes make the run dangerous, the trip only happens when
the weather looks favorable. There is good fishing for big grayling in the creek, but that's not the reason for going there. Rather, it's the absolutely
spectacular scenery along the way. Our weather turned out picture-perfect, no wind at all. It was definitely the highlight of the trip for most of us. Pictures
really can't convey what it was like, but I'll give it a shot with the next few images and videos.
Here, our little flotilla is headed up one of the lakes towards the mountains.
