presidents and their entourages are campaigning in jets - brent

In the USA more than one in five children live in households that struggle to put food on the table.

Someday history is going to be amazed that (either one of the) contestants presidential race cost over a billion dollars, the first lady is campaigning against obesity, and wealth in countries was defined by not how many people are starving but how many people have 2 or more cars, multiple bathrooms, 60 inch tvs, multiple computers, (expensive cameras :), 10 pairs of shoes, etc, etc, etc.

Nice shot of my old neighborhood. I still very much enjoy visiting people in places like this, where humanity is often more genuinely heartfelt than in the more comfortable hoity-toity classes. Unfortunately, these neighborhoods are now often more dangerous than in the mid-20th century. --Stefan

Poignant. It bothers me that with this terrible crisis in which so many people are suffering, luxury goods makers are making record profits. For example 2011 was Ferrari's best year ever.

I suppose it's hard for the candidates to see the poverty on main street whith all the $$ Wall St shoves in their face.

Wow, this is so terribly bleak. The building is the face of the urban poor in North America.

US presidential campaigns amaze me. In Canada, we get maybe five weeks of campaigning, then an election. Our longest federal campaign ever was 74 days in 1926! I couldn't stand listening to the political rhetoric for months and even years.

I agree that far to much money is spent in political campaigns and being from England I dont know how you can stand all the months of campaigning. The cost is truly amazing and I think it would be better the cap the ammount they can spend. Any extra left over from their fund raising could then be spent to allieviate poor living conditions. I am sure that would win them more votes than political speechs. An image like this should make people ashamed and hopefully with in our lifetime poverty can be eradicated.

What a great shot to hit home about the homeless and give us pause about how large a gap there is between the haves and have nots. I love that this place looks so abandoned and yet, there are lights on in the place. The money spent on a campaign would feed so many, it makes me sick. I really hate that the very rich can buy an elections. What would that make America if the offices of our government can be bought? I don't think that's democracy. Sad thing :o(
