This is a huge, iron sugar kettle that was once used to boil sugar cane to make syrup and sugar. It was used on a plantation in southeast Louisiana in the 1800's. Just to give you an idea of its size, it is large enough to hold four people comfortably.
It was given to St. Joseph's Abbey to be displayed as a work of art.
