This photo shows the harvester butterfly with its wings closed, which is how we usually see it, and with wings open, which is not how we usually see it! These butterflies are most often encountered near wetlands, and especially near alder, as their larvae infiltrate groups of woolly aphids and eat them! A carnivorous butterfly caterpillar is the exception rather than the rule!!
