On the 30th of August 1997 an estimated 400 millimeters of rain fell during a 24-hour period. ( The largest downpour in Scandinavia ever). The Göljån river swelled to 500 times its normal volume creating a 6 meters high flood wave that swept through the valley, uprooting the giant spruces along the way. Enormous volumes of timber piled up into huge log jams still to be seen. Hundreds of thousands of cubic metros of earth, stone and boulders were washed down from the mountains. These FIVE pictures show how the valley ( with new river runs) and pile of logs look today some 15 years later. Nature is slowly recapturing the valley!
