A few days ago I was a passenger near the front of this Metro Transit bus in Seattle. I boarded it it the ferry terminal and intended to ride to the Pioneer Square entrance to the bus tunnel under Third Avenue.
As the bus slowly turned left from Yesler Way onto Third Avenue, it seemed to be going wider than required. The sidewalk got closer and closer. Eventually the sidewalk disappeared under the bus. The wide turn continued, ever so slowly. I looked through the windshield and saw a tree dead ahead. The bus slowly and calmly drove right into the tree. WHAM ! It was bizarre to see the tree get closer and closer. No one was hurt, as the bus had been moving slower than a walking pace.I don't know if there was something wrong with the driver or the bus, but I don't recall any frantic action on the part of the driver. The bicycle rack on the front of the bus got crushed.
I was in a hurry to get a light rail ride to Tukwila and did not stick around to see the aftermath.
