This splendid residential and office building on the Central Square was built for merchant Gösta Sumelius in 1901, designed by the architect company Grahn, Hedman and Wasastjerna. At this time the Art Nouveau style was just becoming known in Finland, and the architecture is reminiscent of both the older Revivalist style (ornamented, with round arches and portals) and Art Nouveau (with etched glass windows, wall panelling and tiled stoves).
