Pale Snaketail (Ophiogomphus severus)

Jasper National Park

As soon as I saw this dragonfly resting on the ground, I realized two things: that it was a clubtail (note the widely spaced eyes) and that it looked like a Common Pondhawk! According to the checklist on odonata.bogfoot.net, there are only four Gomphids found in Alberta (Gomphus graslinellus, Ophiogomphus colubrinus, Ophiogomphus severus and Stylurus intricatus) which made it easy to narrow this fellow down.
