Hi Bill,
I have similar comments to the above. The saturated eye is too much--not natural looking to me. The test is whether or not you'd see the eye looking this bright in the wild...I doubt it. Second, this may just reflect my taste as an ecologist, but I'd like to see the photo less cropped. I know a lot of bird photographers like to fill the photo with the bird, but I like some context, such as more of the nesting situation that helps tell a story. Third, and there's not much you can do about this, I'd like to see a photo with the bird a little more side on, or facing the viewer, so as to show the tail better. Again, these are really picky things. Overall, the photo is fabulous; I'm delighted you took advantage of the situation at Tulane to come photograph the nest!

Nice one! If I were forced to pick some things I'd say the eye is a little too saturated, the leaves in the bottom right and the out of focus areas in general look over-sharpened or noisy(maybe just sharpen the bird?) and if the highlights are blown on the top of the bird's head the shadow beneath looks toolight(maybe that's an artifact from the flash). Nice work on getting close enough! Super-cool bird.
