Calligrapha beetle (Calligrapha pnirsa)

Found this beautifully patterned little beetle near Pakenham while taking part in a BioBlitz. The calligraphic beetles are in the Chrysomelid family, the leaf-eating beetles, which includes some of the bio-control agents released to take care of plants such as the invasive purple loosestrife.

His patterns do look like some kind of writing. What a beautiful beetle and photo. I feel like I should learn this language and read it. V.
