Mama and Babies

Southern Vancouver Island

We've been watching a great horned owl these last two weeks and haven't seen it for a while. Yesterday, we were in the area so thought we'd check on it. We didn't see it on our first pass-by so we journeyed on down the road and returned a half hour later. As we passed it's normal hangout three crows/ravens nearly hit the car. We turned around to see what the fuss was all about and saw four owls perched on a branch high up in a maple tree. By the time we got settled to shoot three owls remained and had moved closer to the inner branches of the tree, as the ravens were still making a fuss and dive bombing them. To our delight the owls stayed on the branch for some time. When it got to dark to shoot any more we left and headed for the local coffee shop to celebrate our first sighting ever of owlets!
