Here he is again - perfectly content to look for edible morsels. This was the story:
There were three of us (my husband, his mother, and I) on our way to a nice lunch date. When we arrived at the restaurant's parking lot my husband let me and his mother out so we would not have to walk too far. On the second floor of the inn were a lot of people standing on a deck overlooking the parking lot. I looked at the people and asked what was so exiting about our arrival. They shouted to look behind us. When we turned around we saw the bear. The driver had dropped us off right opposite the dumpster. I walked Mom to the restaurant entrance, dropped her off inside and ran after my husband, making sure the car stayed between me and the bear.
Honorable husband did not realize why I was so excited until he got out of the car himself. Both of us darted to the front door hoping of being ignored by the foraging animal. The spectators above on the deck were hooting and hollering. We opted to have brunch on the deck with all the other spectators, watching the bear getting in and out of the garbage can looking for edible trash.
Not too long after the police arrived shushing the bear out of his lunch container. They had noisemakers and fire crackers to scare him away. The restaurant owner got a ticket for having an open trash container. About an hour later, as we were finishing our meal, the critter was back trying to pry open the now closed trash bin. He was a very determined customer. Fortunately he was not successful in getting at the food again. We made it home safely.
