Common Ringlet (Coenonympha tullia)

This butterfly and the Indian Skipper have been my most commonly encountered butterflies this past week.

Here at home I have chickadees nesting in one of my nest boxes this year. This is the 4th year they have nested in that same box hanging above my garage door. Forget the boxes in the trees or elsewhere! They chose the box I put up mostly as a decoration thinking that no bird would ever nest above my garage door! I also have a Wood Thrush nesting in the forest beside me this year, which is a first. I had never seen a Wood Thrush in there until this spring (every other thrush species, yes, but not Wood Thrush). He has been singing throughout the day for weeks including right now as I type this. A few weeks ago a singing Swainson's Thrush was also here for a couple of days. It was only the second time in my life I had heard one sing.
