On the other side of the entrance was the gold statue. Silver and gold leaf waas available for purchase to be rubbed onto the appropriate statue. In this case, as you can see, some gold was being inappropriately rubbed onto the silver statue - and the reverse was the case for the gold one. Usually there isn't any confusion as usually there is just gold leaf to consider. over time, the entire object is coated to a considerable depth. I'm not sure how long it takes, but it is done in tiny increments. It is enjoyable to be part of this, even in such a small way.
This wat complex was off Wua Lai Rd, where many people go on Saturday night for the Walking Market (street market). The Sunday one is larger, with the main street length being a km (the Ratchadamnern Rd section) and the total length extended by stretching up by side roads, such as to the Three Kings Monument, into wat compounds with additional stalls, and around ThaPae Gate. I miss the atmosphere.
