Enkhuizen was a major shipping port for the Netherlands until 1932
when the Zuiderzee, the salt water inlet from the North Sea, was
dammed by a 20 mile causeway. The enclosed water adjacent to
Enkhuizen is called Lake IJssel and is now freshwater.
These large sailing ships are available for rent.
