One afternoon Dick turned up at the Hayes circuit; after the meeting he asked me to test a new tank in a class B racer before putting it on the market. He opened the boot of his car and there sat the very model Johnnie Hall flew in 1954/55. I said I would fly at a constant 6ft height so that Dick could assess the tank run. The chickenhopper tank delivered a perfect run but I said let's give it one more tank load - I couldn't believe my luck after ten years I was flying my dream machine!

In 1980 I phoned Dick and asked him if he still had the model and he said "what model?" (Bad sign) so I jogged his memory but he had no recollection of the event. I have since drawn up plans of the model from my photograph's
