It's a Red Admiral invasion!

For the last few days there has been a tremendous amount of these guys flying all about.

Unfortunately, they are dying by the hundreds (probably thousands!) on the road.
I can't imagine how many there would be if so many weren't being turned into hood ornaments!

Such a stunning shot! Yes, they are moving north by the thousands. This is the second big migratory wave of red admirals (and smaller numbers of American lady butterflies too). Amazing, eh! Very sad about them being road killed. V

I see them rarely, find them quite beautiful. Why the invasion? I am curious. Sometimes the will land on you. Good luck, I have heard.
