Magnolia

Many of the magnolias blooming in the Arboretum, were hit by last night's frost and are brown and falling. But these ones were doing pretty well, and as many trees have not yet blossomed, we should see more magnolias soon.

Sweet bird of youth. This magnolia in all its loveliness seems ready to take off.

Unfortunately there is some of that frost around here as well and some plants are feeling the same effects.

Magnolia flowers are short-lived, but not all trees blossom at the same time...today I passed one (south-facing) with petals already falling, and 10 minutes later spotted another (north-facing) with buds about to open...local microclimates can mean staggered displays..this sweet beauty is a lovely confection...V
