This is another butterfly species that is presently migrating along with the Red Admirals. They are nowhere near as numerous; I have only seen 3 Question Marks compared to about 300 Red Admirals in the past two days.
I covered a lot of ground today looking for butterflies and had a lot of luck photographing a variety of species (other photos will be posted in the coming days). The one species I didn't see while I was out that I was hoping to see and photograph was a Question Mark. I didn't think much of not seeing a Question Mark today because I figured there would be more opportunity in the near future. Then, unexpectedly, when I took a quick break to have a snack, I looked out in my backyard and saw this Question Mark. I raced out with my camera and it initially flew up and away, but it circled back and landed low in one of the pine trees right in front of me. I couldn't have been luckier with this shot.
