Soldier Fly, Merosargus sp. (Stratiomyidae)

Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve, Prov. Pichincha, Ecuador

The subfamily Sarginae contains elongate flies that are often seen on exposed vegetation or in hovering flight over sites of decay. Merosargus, Ptecticus, and Sargus are common genera.
