We have just arrived by the little local train which stopped every five minutes in a different small village like a city bus.
So from the small railway station we have to walk down to the river to get to the ancient part of the village.
The river is the famous Rhine (as it’s called in English), of course.
The Rhine is one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe. It runs for over 1,232 km (766 mi) from its source in the in the Swiss Alps , issuing from the Rheinwaldhorn Glacier 3,353m above sea level.
And it’s also the river of the Wagner’s operas, The Rhine Gold, the Nibelungs, the Valkyries and all the rest, you know what I mean, but this is another story…
