April 14 - Blue Valley area

I've been out since I last posted, but it was just some hikes Cindy and I did to shoot wildflowers. Haven't had time to process all of those, but they were mostly varieties I already have in my 'Wildflowers' gallery. Today's adventure was with Bernie and Harry. We all met at the share a ride parking on Hwy 64 then Bernie shuttled us over to where he had some new waterfalls to show us. Actually, he and Harry had been to this 1st one a few years back, but had taken the long was trying to avoid private property. On the way out, they found a trail that led up to a road that connected to the main road through the valley, so that's the way we went today. If you dare drive down this narrow one lane road, you will need high clearance and can expect to have scratches on the side of your vehicle. To get here, head down Hwy 28 south from Highlands and turn right into the Blue Valley like you were heading to Picklesimer Rock House Falls. Before the pavement turns to gravel, look for Carriage Lane on the left. I guess you could find a place to pull off on the main road and walk the 1/2 mile down this lane, but Bernie drove. The lane passes right in front of a house with barking dogs that run loose, but Bernie and Harry had spoken with a lady there while walking back out on their last trip, and she seemed very nice. Beyond the house, the road gets rougher and that's where the high clearance will come in handy. We parked at a gate with barely enough room to turn around and pull out of the way. We then continued on foot down the road for a short distance and picked up a ribboned side trail that leads down to the Clear Creek below the waterfall. We had to wade across the creek to get to where we had a view.
