The hard-edged impressionist beauty of an Alfred Sisley painting. The mood is barren with the sense of timber washed ashore, perhaps, adrift like the scuttling gray clouds moving behind the grim green pines. The flat textured surface invites comparison with Japanese paintings as well, inspiration for some impressionist painters.
