You might remember seeing a picture of this little guy a while back. The photo was titled “Colt at three days old.” http://www.pbase.com/mashuga/image/142201524
This little colt is from a Beligum draft horse mother and a mule father.
Here is a picture of that little colt today. I first posted the photo a while back when it was only three days old. Since then a real drama has played out with that beautiful little colt that I couldn’t bring myself to mention here before now. The colt had a severe leg problem and was not able to stand for more than a few moments, it’s legs would buckle at the front knee joints, collapse and then drop the colt to the ground. It was a terrible thing to watch. It struggled to stand and nurse and so it was feared that it either would not survive, or have to be “put down.” Last week a local vet did surgery to the little colt, and I’m delighted to report that it is walking and nursing and now finally doing just fine. It was out in the pasture with its mom and walking about normally. It was such a relief today to see this happy new beginning. I am so relived to finally tell you of this little guys recovery. I have to say that the colts struggles really affected me greatly and I couldn’t bring myself to report it here till now. Great news.
