Drawing of imagined Buteyko Sculpture 1

This drawing of a rather strange Buteyko sculpture was done for a graphic account of the science behind Buteyko's discovery.
The symbolism of the various elements of the sculpture can be deciphered as follows:

B for Buteyko.
The correct amount of CO2 in the body is vital for health.
The over breathing snake (top left) forming the shape of an over breathing human head gasping for air, is the cause of chronic disease and suffering.
Buteyko devised a method for reducing breathing (moving down along the snake) to achieve good health (bottom right, the tail of the snake, ending in a serene profile of a head with mouth closed).

The whole is a variation of the Rod of Asclepius, the snake entwined staff often used as a symbol of medicine.
The ambiguity of the serpent as a symbol reflects the contradictions in medicine - drugs can help or harm
(Pharmakon meant "Drug" or "Medicine" and "Poison" in ancient Greek).
Similarly, optimum breathing brings good health but breathing too much will make you ill.

The rod is planted in the ground with some difficulty (hard to introduce revolutionary change in medicine).
Despite all, out of the cracks prised open, new growth springs forth.
