Falling letters

Calke Abbey
The stairs leading to the servants quarters.
The pile of letters at the bottom are messages from one of the owners to the servants letting them know what he wanted, I believe he just dropped them down for them to find.

If you use a lens at 10mm don't forget to look out for your feet!!!!!

The un-stately home and country estate

With peeling paintwork and overgrown courtyards, Calke Abbey tells the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate. The house and stables are little restored, with many abandoned areas vividly portraying a period in the 20th century when numerous country houses did not survive to tell their story.

Discover the tales of an eccentric family who amassed a vast collection of hidden treasures. Visit the beautiful, yet faded, walled gardens and explore the orangery, auricula theatre and the kitchen gardens. Escape into the ancient and fragile habitats of Calke Park and its National Nature Reserve.

That must be a one-way delivery, hard for the servants to throw their replies back :0)

an image which leads one effortlessly into the fascinating story behind it....maybe the shoe could be one left out for the servants to clean?

Sounds a really interesting place to visit time and time again. What a bizarre way to communicate with anyone!
