A rather uncommon migrant to sub-Sahara Africa from central Eurasia. However, since this bird is usually very secretive, it is in Africa certainly under-recorded. Apart from an old record in Northern Zambia, a very recent record (22 March 2012) has been reported from Fishhoek near Cape Town, South Africa, most probably a case of so-called "reversed migration"
