The attacks on women’s health keep coming! Last year, Governor Perry and the Texas Legislature shamefully politicized women’s health
and cut state family planning programs by two-thirds leaving more than 360,000 women without access to basic, lifesaving care.
Now, Governor Perry and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC)
are threatening the Medicaid Women’s Health Program (WHP) and the 130,000 women who rely on it.
Texas is attempting to ban Planned Parenthood from participating in the program.
The federal government has already told the State that banning qualified providers is a violation of Medicaid law – and to do so would threaten the future of the entire program.
Yet Texas is committed to violating federal law and restricting the right of Medicaid patients to choose their own provider.
Now, the future of Medicaid WHP is in danger and 130,000 women in need could lose access to basic, lifesaving care
including breast and cervical cancer screenings, screenings for diabetes and hypertension, and STD testing and birth control.
