F-4E 69-307

Rheine-Hopsten

F-4E 69-0307/SL (c/n 3851) lived a fascinating life. It made its maiden flight in June 1970 and was transfered to the 82 Wing of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF Amberley) in a $ 34 mln leasecontract on November 28th, 1970. This deal lasted till June 1973, comprising 24 FY69 F-4E's. One crashed in Australia, the others went back into service with the USAF.

All but two of these ex-RAAF Phantoms were modified to F-4G Wild Weasel at Ogden in the late-1970's. F-4E 69-0307 became a F-4G not long after this picture was taken during take-off with full a/b at Rheine-Hopsten, during 'Coronet Shield' in June 1988. The aircraft became a F-4G after all (1988; in a second batch of 18 aircraft, all being FY69-Phantoms like the initial examples) and lived until November 6th, 1997, when it was shot down as a QF-4G target, 19 months after it arrived at AMARC for storage, becoming FP1010.
