Holding Robbie

Named after the Scottish bard, Robbie Burns, my old cat Robbie, after a very long life, died suddenly but quickly this morning, 6 March, 2012. He was somewhere around 20, 21 or 22 years of age. We don't know for sure as he came to us as a stray, one bitterly cold winter many years ago. He took up residence in the garage where I made a warm house for him out of a box, blankets, insulation and cushions. I gave him food morning and evening and eventually he allowed me to pat him. Then he brought his pregnant girlfriend over and moved her into the cathouse! The weather continued bitter (-30C and colder) and so, when I was able to pick him up, I moved him and his girlfriend into the house. His girlfriend was quickly adopted and I agreed to foster Robbie for a local cat rescue group, until a home could be found. I already had 3 cats and 2 large dogs. But of course, within a few weeks I knew Robbie had found his home, with me! And he became the most incredible cat I've ever had the pleasure to know. When I was in the house, he was with me, day and night for 16 far too short years. The house is now empty without my sweet Robbie, whom I miss terribly.

Beautiful composition of the memories you now hold in your heart. I think you needed each other and he lived a long happy time with you, so you made each other richer. Voted.

aww...so sorry to hear about Robbie, Christine. He's probably at Rainbow Bridge, romping in green grass with Tasha. 16 years is a long time ...keep close the memories.
