Hollands

Needles and anchors are about the only things they don't sell in Holland's Hardware.
If you want a mousetrap, paint, onion sets, bird seed, camping gas, furniture, or picture frames, then Holland's is the place to go.
This family run business has been in Park St for generations and, fingers crossed, will last for many more to come.
It was nice and sunny for most of today and I was planning to take more shots along the street when I had time after work.
By then, however, the sun had disappeared and it was cool and cloudy soI just got a Chinese takeway and went home.

And doubtless as cluttered as anything inside, but that's part of the charm of such stores. I remember stores like this, mostly in small suburban strip malls, though they've all but disappeared down here. One of our major supermarket chains runs an outfit called Bunnings Warehouse, the stores of which are huge (the largest is about 16.5K square metres) and the other chain is just starting up its own competing hardware superstore chain. I must confess that I find Bunnings to be quite the Aladdin's cave and find it hard to justify going to one of the smaller local stores... or the one or two that still exist. They have a much better chance of survival in smaller towns, though, and I'd agree that it would be nice to see this one survive and prosper so that more than this photo remains of it.

They don't sell anchors? What kind of hardware shop is that?

There's nothing better than a hardware store that carries everything! Beautiful shop & shot Mairead! V

What a fascinating place to explore, and a fascinating image as well. One wonders what or whom that person is waiting for.

A nostalgic photo, and a visually interesting one with so much to look at. I love these small family run stores, of which there are sadly, fewer and fewer. May this one long remain. V

Nice shot! I really hate to see the end of these little shops with their individual characteristics. We have none left now!! Multinationals (Woolworths or Coles in disguise) have taken over everywhere!

Mairead, Do you not call them 'iron mongers' in Ireland?

What a terrific and colorful store! I looked at the Original size and I'm amazed at the jumble of goods inside and outside of the window. I would love to shop in a place like this.

My kind of store! Well done.

I love these traditional shops. The sites they occupy are eyed up by the likes of Tesco Metro I'm sure :(

Looks like a useful shop!

A wonderful storefront with the vivid red and all the plaques. Love the diverse range of goods on display that can be seen in this image. I can only imagine what it's like inside. "V"

Oh my gosh, I could get lost in there for hours! Beautiful red storefront.
