Great White Egret Behind a Curtain of Spanish Moss

Louisiana Swamp

The days when the egrets first arrive at the rookery are the most fleeting ones. Their colors and feathers are beautiful and they are in their courting mood. Once the eggs are laid and the chicks hatched the colors begin to fade and they lose their long plumes along the way.

just like humans then, you start off with nice hair then after the kids are born it slowly fades and goes grey!
