One of the hightlights in my early- 'spotting carreer' was the deployment of 11 F-4D's of the 170TFS IL ANG to RAFG Wildenrath during 'Coronet Wichita' in the Summer of 1986. These oldies flew a lot with the local 19 and 92 sqdn Phantom FGR.2's, but clearly were the ones with the better looks and, more important, the best sound ever created. One can only imagine the acoustic orgasm created by a landing F-4D, in this case being 66-7587/SI, in these long gone days.
BTW, interesting detail is that 170TFS/183TFG IL ANG became the first ANG-unit flying the F-4D on January 31st, 1972!
