Wild and wet, he was so close I could have touched him.
We watched him make his way across the marsh until he finally stopped at my feet.
He came so close that I could no longer focus with this lens nor with the smaller the 70-300mm on my other body. After that, he continued directly toward me and came even closer. I had to back up before we touched. I didn't need photos to remember the moment as our eyes locked. My mom screamed "shut the door" for fear he'd hop into the car. I did and he didn't. She was panicked about a wild hawk being so oddly attracted to me to the point of walking over and even continuing to move closer after I had backed up. Usually hawks take wing if I even "think" photograph. This one instead came toward me. I photographed him. He dried off. Finally he flew away.
This was a rare moment in Nature.
